​​Tokyo (FN), Dec. 18 – Chairman of the Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Association Imamura Masahiro stated that the Japanese companies intended to increase imports of cashew nuts and pepper from Cambodia.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Imamura Masahiro, on Monday (Dec. 18) in Tokyo.

During the meeting, Imamura Masahiro congratulated Samdech Thipadei on his appointment as Cambodian prime minister and thanked Samdech Thipadei for taking the time to allow him and his delegations from the association to pay a courtesy call.

Imamura Masahiro briefed Samdech Thipadei on the activities of the association, which has been working closely with the Cambodian Embassy in Japan to further strengthen Japan-Cambodia cooperation, especially in a number of priority areas, including agriculture, health, energy, demining and unexploded ordnance. Regarding agricultural products, the association underlined that Japanese companies intend to increase imports of cashew nuts and pepper from Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his pleasure to meet with Imamura Masahiro again after two previous meetings when the premier was in charge of youth affairs and commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei underscored that the year 2023 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties and a special year in which Cambodia-Japan bilateral relations have been elevated to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership", representing a commendable level for the overall relationship between the two nations.

In the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also recalled Japan's support for Cambodia's socio-economic development and development process since the search for peace. In this regard, Samdech Thipadei also praised the strong friendship and progress of cooperation in all fields between Cambodia and Japan in the legislative, executive, business, and people-to-people domains.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that the seventh-mandate Royal Government's stance on Japan remains consistent with the previous mandate, namely to maintain the sustainability and consistency of the existing relations and to strengthen ties for even greater collaboration and cooperation.
