Tokyo (FN), Dec. 19 – Obayashi Takeo, Representative Director of the Kansai Economic Federation and Chairman of Japan's Obayashi Corporation, announced the company's intent to increase its investment in Cambodia. He actively encouraged other potential investors to explore opportunities and consider investing in the thriving Cambodian market.

Obayashi Takeo spoke during a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Tuesday (Dec. 19) in Tokyo, Japan.

During the meeting, Obayashi Takeo expressed gratitude to the premier for allowing him to pay a courtesy call and brief the premier on the business activities of the Kansai Economic Federation. He specifically highlighted key projects undertaken in Cambodia, including the repair work on the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge in Chroy Changvar.

The representative director also conveyed plans to expand investments and actively promote Cambodia as an attractive investment destination for Japanese companies. In return, Obayashi Takeo apprised the premier of the upcoming Global Expo project scheduled for 2024 by the Kansai Regional Economic Federation. He expressed his hope for Cambodia's active participation in this significant event.

Cambodian Premier Hun Manet welcomed the meeting with Obayashi Takeo and his colleagues, expressing his pleasure at the engagement with the Kansai Economic Federation, which represents numerous companies and enterprises in the Kansai region interested in investing in Cambodia. He encouraged the ongoing efforts to showcase Cambodia's potential to Japanese investors, aiming to pique their interest and create opportunities for further investment expansion in Cambodia.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also affirmed the active participation of the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia in the Global Expo hosted by the Kansai Regional Economic Federation in 2024. The prime minister underscored the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to maintaining a conducive business and investment environment by introducing new policies, implementation mechanisms, and legal frameworks. He emphasized the government's focus on advancing infrastructure development, enhancing connectivity, and bolstering key logistics elements such as highways, railways, and ports.

Samdech Thipadei continued, the Royal Government is actively exploring the feasibility of establishing a Cambodia-Japan industrial park. Additionally, they are working on developing a comprehensive master plan in the logistics sector with the aim of transforming the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a pivotal regional port. These initiatives are geared towards creating environments that not only facilitate but also offer attractive incentives for investors considering Cambodia as an investment destination.
