DUBAI, Dec. 20 (TASS) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has described the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip as a failure.

"We are already receiving signals showing that the US does not want to be associated with the IDF's war crimes in the Gaza Strip, but it still continues to support the Israeli regime in its failed military operation against the Palestinians," he said at a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha.

Iran's foreign minister also said continued support for Israel from the US would only increase the magnitude of their political and military defeat.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Abdollahian met with the chairman of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Doha to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. This is the fourth time the Iranian foreign minister has visited Qatar since October 7, when the conflict between Hamas and Israel again entered a hot phase.

The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated following an incursion of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel on October 7. Hamas has cast the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel has declared a complete siege of the Gaza Strip and started a military operation there. Israel also strikes parts of Lebanon and Syria in retaliation for bombardments originating from these countries. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
