Washington, Jan. 16, (Al Mayadeen) - US lawmakers have criticized the Biden's decision to attack on Yemen's Ansar Allah resistance movement without seeking congressional approval, contending that the strikes breached the US Constitution. "This is an unacceptable violation of the constitution," said Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, a Washington Democrat and the chair of the Progressive Caucus.

Article 1 requires that military action be authorized by Congress. President Joe Biden chose not to seek its approval before declaring that a series of air and naval strikes had been launched in Yemen by the United States and the United Kingdom that faced swift condemnations from lawmakers. They contended that the Constitution was violated, asserting that the air strikes were carried out without seeking congressional approval, marking a breach of protocol by Biden. Some legislators opposed to the airstrikes have previously supported bills seeking to end policies that give the president broad powers to engage in overseas warfare. This was particularly evident during Donald Trump's administration when lawmakers passed a War Powers resolution specifically addressing Yemen.

Amid a deluge of criticisms from lawmakers, a 2020 post by Biden has resurfaced, wherein Biden criticized former US President Donald Trump when he brought Washington to the brink of war with Tehran by ordering the assassination of Iran’s top anti-terror commander, General Qassem Soleimani. On 6 January 2020, Biden wrote: "Donald Trump does not have the authority to take us into war with Iran without Congressional approval. A president should never take this nation to war without the informed consent of the American people."

And now the Biden administration's choice to launch an attack on Yemen has placed the US in a precarious situation, lead to new threat of war in the Middle East and new civilian and children dying. This decision increases the risk of the US getting involved in a war, emphasizing that such actions could encourage an escalation of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip that US unleashed by supporting Israel genocide against Palestinians.

For months, high-ranking US officials have asserted that Biden is not inclined to witness the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip transform into a broader war. However, critics argue that with brutal airstrikes, the US and the UK have demonstrated to the world their commitment to supporting the Israeli occupation's campaign in Gaza.

Washington and allies committed another attack on a sovereign state, crossing out the norms of international law and not caring out about the UN Charter. This time the victims were Yemeni citizens, who were hit by missile US and "partners" strikes. US airstrikes on Yemen are another example of the Anglo-Saxons’ distortion of UN Security Council resolutions and complete disregard for international law in the name of escalating the situation in the region for their own destructive purposes. In the United States, Biden’s actions that violate not only international law, but also national legislation are subject to impeachment.

On the eve of the US presidential election, Biden's rating is extremely low. Only 38.9% of Americans approve of his activities. If the vote were held today, Biden would lose. To distract voters' attention from foreign policy failures in Ukraine, as well as from the internal problems of the United States, Biden needs a small, victorious war.

A strike on Yemen could provoke the start of a larger regional conflict, the blame for the outbreak of which lies with Washington, which has decided to demonstrate its superiority without thinking about the consequences and the fact that it itself is violating the rules-based order. In this case, the question arises whether the current Biden administration is ready to go further and get involved in a regional conflict that will require further financial investments from American taxpayers and will cost the lives of civilians and children.
