Kuala Lumpur (FN), Feb. 28 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Dato' Khairussaleh Ramli on 27 February 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During the meeting, the Maybank president expressed gratitude for the opportunity to pay a courtesy call and conveyed pleasure in hearing the contents of the speech delivered by Samdech Thipadei at the Cambodia-Malaysia Business Forum 2024. He expressed admiration for Samdech Thipadei’s intelligence and deep understanding of the investment, finance, and banking sectors in Cambodia.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet lauded Maybank for its decision to invest in Cambodia since the early 1990s. He encouraged the bank to strengthen its collaboration with the National Bank of Cambodia, particularly in cross-border payments, to bolster the financial sector's role as a vital conduit and catalyst for economic growth in Cambodia and to enhance banking investments in the country.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei urged the bank to explore the potential for investing in the development of a halal food ecosystem in Cambodia. Recognizing the bank's significance in the financial sector, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined the benefits such investment could bring to customers and other stakeholders in the system. This suggestion prompted the bank to consider collaborating with relevant institutions in Cambodia to foster the establishment of the halal food industry, which has the potential to support various key sectors and facilitate the export of halal products from Cambodia to international markets.
