Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 10 - Keo Remy, Chairman of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) said Monday morning that the United States is not a father of democracy; in terms of human rights, Cambodia is better than the US.

The statement was made at the celebration of the 70th International Human Rights Day, under the theme of “Maintain Peace to Promote Human Rights”, presided over by President of Cambodia’s Senate Say Chhum at Diamond Island Exhibition and Convention Center on 10 December 2018.

According to Keo Remy, based on the data from one of the US Civil Society Organizations, American population is only 5 per cent of the world's population, but 25 per cent of prisoners worldwide are Americans, an equivalent to 2.4 million.

“People asked me on Facebook whether Cambodia has human rights. Is there a respect for human rights? I replied that the human rights situation in Cambodia is much better compared to those in some neighboring countries in Asia, Europe, and the US. So, I would like to clarify that peace is the key to promoting human rights,” he added.
