Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 11 – Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) released a statement on Monday stating that she regrets the politically-motivated accusation made by The Cambodia Daily and wishes to reiterate that in the event that The Cambodia Daily meets its tax obligation, the newspaper can resume its operation.

“Many media outlets are operating freely as long as they operate in compliance with our laws, including the fulfillment of their tax obligation. In this context, MoFAIC wishes to vehemently deny The Cambodia Daily’s accusation that the Royal Government of Cambodia shut its operation and closed its bank account due to its stance critical of the Government." the ministry wrote.

“This accusation is false and not based on fact at all. In fact, many media outlets in Khmer and Foreign languages have fulfilled their obligation in accordance with the laws in force, continue to operate and enjoy their freedom of expression without hindrance,” it added.
