Kampot (FN), April 2 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that the inauguration of the expansion of water supply system in Kampot will effectively address water crisis for people in Kampot.

“Our clean water supply was low back then. Under the grant aid of the Government of Japan, now we can supply more. After all, it is not enough,” the Premier addressed.

The USD 26 million clean water system can supply up to 7,500 cubic meters per day using underwater pipes to distribute to Kampot households, according to the Premier.

He added that the new dam is required across a river to obstruct flow of salty river water and to create a reservoir for clean water to address water crisis during dry season, which starts from November through April.

Kampot was the capital of the Circonscription Résidentielle de Kampot under French rule and Cambodia's most important seaport after the loss of the Mekong Delta and before the establishment of Sihanoukville. The province is well known for for its fish sauce, durian fruit, and high quality pepper exported worldwide.
