Phnom Penh (FN), May 2 – Phnom Penh municipal court judge Ros Piseth, on Thursday, sentenced Sam Rainsy, former leader of the dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party, to eight years imprisonment and a fine of USD 5,000 to the state.

The verdict was announced following the hearing in absentia today.

Rainsy was charged with inciting military to disobey orders and demoralizing, a violation of article 471 and 472 of Cambodian criminal code, committed on 6-8 and 10 June 2017 in Phnom Penh and other places.
