Phnom Penh (FN), May 26 – Cambodia’s third mandate councils election was held on 26 May 2019 from 7 a.m until 3 p.m.

The National Election Committee (NEC) vice-chairman Nuth Sokhom said this Sunday that the preliminary result will be released on 31 May, while the official result on 8 June 2019.

According to the NEC, Cambodia has 559 posts of capital and provincial councilors, and 3,555 seats of municipal, district and Khan, and 11,572 eligible commune and sangkat councilors to vote at the 203 polling stations nationwide.

NEC spokesman Dim Sovannarom said seven political parties – Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), the Khmer National United Party (KNUP), FUNCINPEC, the Cambodian Nationality Party (CNP), the Khmer Youth Party (CYP), the Khmer Will Party (KWP), and the Khmer Republican Party (KRP) – registered for the election, and that over 1,000 from groups such as the Union of Youth Federations in Cambodia and NGOs registered to observe.

The NEC announced on Friday, May 24, that the third mandate councils electoral campaigning went smoothly, without violence or complaints, from May 17 to May 24.
