Sihanoukville (FN), June 29 - Cambodian Minister of Interior Sar Kheng reminded that all constructions in Sihanoukville province must be of high quality, safety, and in accordance to the laws to avoid further incidents, speaking Saturday at the appointment ceremony of the new governor.

Construction in Sihanoukville has rapidly increased in recent years, thanks to the booming of Chinese investment.

Sihanoukville, 230 km west of the capital Phnom Penh, currently has 194 construction projects, according to former provincial governor Yun Min.

A seven-storey building collapsed in Sihanoukville province on June 23 was considered as low-quality and an illegal construction site, which resulted in 28 deaths and 26 others seriously injured.

In order to avoid further construction-related incident, and to restore the prestige of the province, Minister Sar Kheng advised the newly-appointed governor Kuoch Chamroeun, and officials in Sihanoukville to thoroughly investigate all constructions to ensure they are legal, qualified, and safe.
