Phnom Penh (FN), July 2 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Naga World and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport on Monday, entailing a year-long sponsorship of education materials and stationery sets to 55 primary schools in 11 provinces.
As one of the key pillars of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, Naga World has always been giving a heavy focus on to Education Enhancement in the Kingdom. This partnership will also include essential learning opportunities such as fire safety awareness and donation of fire extinguishers to selected secondary and high schools.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony at the Ministry, Naga World Managing Director Pern Chen expressed his gratitude for the support shown by the Ministry, seeing as education development plays a crucial role in building the nation.
“Since 2014, we have contributed towards a better learning environment and provided educational materials alongside conducting various activities focusing on education, sports, and the environment for more than 181,000 students in over 100 schools across 10 provinces in Cambodia.
“This year, we have extended our reach to include one more province. We hope our contributions will particularly help the underprivileged families who struggle to afford basic study items for their children,” he said yesterday.
Pern added that Naga World has also conducted fire safety workshops for the benefit of nearly 5,000 students over the past two years.
The Fire Safety Awareness programme has been running at all secondary and high schools in Phnom Penh and will be expanded to Kandal, Kampong Speu, and Takeo provinces this year.
The sessions are conducted by members of Naga World’s in-house Fire Safety Department to educate students on fire prevention and fire safety awareness, with fire extinguishers donated to schools.
“With this MoU, we will also expand our Fire Safety Awareness programme to more schools, essentially to educate our communities and help protect them from the devastating effects of fires,” he said.
Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport H.E. Dr Hang Chuon Naron said: “We sincerely appreciate the valuable contributions and commitment from Naga World to support the education sector development in Cambodia and providing essential life-saving fire prevention knowledge to our students and communities,” he said.
Meanwhile, the distribution of stationery sets is conducted by Naga World Kind Hearts volunteers at the respective primary school compounds, involving students in Grades 1-6. This would hopefully motivate them to study hard for their future. Prizes are also given to stellar students as encouragement to strive for improvement in their efforts, and not to lose sight of their goals. KT/Anith Adilah Othman.
