Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 28 - The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia today released a guidelines “Compass for Chinese People to Cambodia", aimed at attracting more Chinese tourists to the kingdom and teaching the tourists to understand and respect the culture, customs and traditions of Cambodia.

Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian hopes that the compass will equip the Chinese tourists with dignity and respect towards the kingdom; and that they can serve as friendly agent to promote people-to-people ties between the two countries.

“China always encourages tourists and investors to visit Cambodia. We do urge them to respect the customs, traditions, and values of the host country. We also hope our tourists could become Cambodia-China Friendship Envoy to enhance the beautiful image of China,” Ambassador Wang stated at the launching of the “Compass for Chinese People to Cambodia”, held at Phnom Penh International Airport on Wednesday.

“The Chinese Embassy expects that there will be approximately 3 million Chinese visiting Cambodia by 2020,” the ambassador added.

Under secretary of state of Ministry of Tourism Hor Sarun stated at the launching ceremony that the 3 million Chinese tourist is not a huge figure.

“We have already prepared to welcome the Chinese tourists since 2016 by preparing a white book [China Ready] and maintaining good cooperation with the Chinese Embassy to welcome more Chinese tourists to Cambodia,” Sarun stated.

According to the tourism ministry’s report, Cambodia welcomed 6.2 million tourists in 2018, increased by 11 percent, compared to the same period. Among those, there were two million Chinese.

As of the first semester of 2019, Cambodia has welcomed 2.6 million Chinese tourists, the report added.

Cambodia expects to receive 3 million Chinese by 2020; 5 million by 2025; and 8 million in 2030.
