Beijing, China (FN), Sept. 25 – Chinese Defence Minister Wei Fenghe reaffirmed the commitment to supporting Cambodia’s legitimate interests, speaking to Nem Sowath, director-general of the defence ministry's general department of policy and foreign affairs during his visit to Beijing on 24 September 2019.

“China fully supports Cambodia’s defence sector in order to protect her legitimate interests,” said Minister Wei Fenghe.

“Cambodia-China deserve to be the [iron-clad] friend under the leadership of Premier Hun Sen and President Xi Jinping; the two have become comprehensive strategic partners that bring fruitful achievements for both sides,” Sowath quoted Minister Wei Fenghe.

Chinese defence minister expressed his pleasure to cooperate with the Cambodian side and work together to implement the policies formulated by the two countries' leader.

Minister Wei Fenghe also pledged to continue strengthening traditional friendship, deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly defence cooperation; and building Cambodia-China community of common destiny for the sake of security and peace in the region.

In response, General Nem Sowath conveyed congratulations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China.

Both sides agreed to promote the exchanges of visits of senior delegates and capacity building by hosting joint military exercises.

It is worth noting that General Nem Sowath led a high-level military delegates for five-day visit to China, from 22-27 September 2019 to strengthen and expand military cooperation.
