Thailand (FN) , Nov. 5 – The 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits were concluded on 4 November 2019.
In the closing ceremony held in Bangkok, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand, handed the hammer of chairmanship of ASEAN for 2020 to his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
In his speech, Vietnamese Premier Phuc noted that Vietnam has chosen “Cohesive and Responsive” as the theme for the ASEAN Year 2020, according to the Voice of Vietnam.
The 10 ASEAN members traditionally rotate the chairmanship in alphabetical order. Vietnam will take over as chairman of ASEAN from 1 January 2020.
2020 will mark the 25th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN.
