Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 19 – Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen has been granted the “Leadership and Good Governance” Award, presented by Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, co-founder of the Universal Peace Federation, on the occasion of the opening of the Asia-Pacific Summit 2019, held on 19 November 2019 at the Peace Palace, Cambodia.
The Asia-Pacific Summit 2019 takes place from November 18-21, 2019, attended by nearly 2,000 people, including 800 delegates from 48 countries, held under the theme "Addressing the Critical Challenges of our Time: Peace, Reconciliation, Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values”.
At the opening ceremony on Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that: "This summit is important and timely relevant for the current global situation, where security, political and economic has been increasingly tense and uncertain over the last decade."
He continued: "the ongoing trade war between the superpowers, the rise of populists, geopolitics and rivalries of superpower, as well as the rise of verbal and subversive activities in the Middle East, especially in Yamen, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, in addition to the existing threats from natural catastrophes, climate change, severe environmental damage, chronic poverty, and extreme terrorism, are threatening to security, prosperity, economic and trade, both locally and globally."
The summit is co-hosted by the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) in coordination with the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), and the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) to promote peace-building and reconciliation so as to bring about development and prosperity as well as to seek for solutions to other current critical issues in society.
The Summit is unique in that it exhibits the positive impact of cooperation between the government and civil society in peace-building and reconciliation in areas of conflict, showcasing sustainable development models as well as solutions to other critical issues in the society.
