Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has appealed to all doctors, both at public and private hospitals, to abide doctors’ code of conduct and improve ethics and attitude, addressing at the graduation ceremony of medical students at Koh Pich, Phnom Penh on Monday morning.

Premier Hun Sen, however, insisted that the issue happened with only a small number of doctors.

“I call on health officials and our doctors to improve attitudes towards patients without discriminating whether they are rich or poor. A poor also has a life; we should put more attention to them,” said Prime Minister Hun Sen.

"Public or private doctors must not prioritize money than human lives. Money comes later, try to cure the patients first. Doctors should not seek only rich patients and send the poor to other places,” he added.

The premier warned that if doctors do not improve attitudes and professionalism toward the patients, Cambodian citizens would still complain despite having state-of-the-art facilities, equipped with billion-dollar equipment.
