Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 11 – A 65-year-old British woman with Covid-19 in Cambodia has been transferred from Kompong Cham province to the international standard hospital in the capital of Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s Health Ministry told Fresh News on Wednesday.

“As requested by the British Embassy in Phnom Penh and with the consents from WHO and USCDC representatives, the 65-year-old woman was transferred from Kompong Cham hospital to an international hospital in Phnom Penh. The patient is physically impaired thus requires the accessible toilet compartment. She departs Kompong Cham via an ambulance at 4:30 p.m of 11 March local time,” the ministry said.

The woman arrived in Cambodia on 7 March from Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh on a river cruise called Viking Cruise Journey along with 64 passengers and crews.

The woman was infected with the virus from a Vietnamese woman who flew by plane together with her group of five from London to Hanoi on 2 March.

On 5 March, the 65-year-old flew from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh before taking the ship cruise from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh and then to Kompong Cham. The other four tourists who had close contacts with her, tested negative.

The ministry said today that it is waiting for the results of the other 59 passengers and crews from Pasteur Institute.

The British woman is the third case of Covid-19 in Cambodia. The first one was found on a 60-year-old Chinese man on 27 January when he flew from Wuhan to Sihanoukville. However, he recovered and returned home. The second case was found on 7 March on a 38-year-old Cambodian man in Siem Reap, believed to be transmitted from the Japanese businessman.
