Phnom Penh (FN), May 3 – Investigating Judge Ek Polifil, on Sunday, issued an order to detain a 30-year old Nigerian man and his 33-year old Cambodian wife, allegedly charged with online scams, according to Kuch Kim Long, spokesperson of the prosecution attached to Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

Nin Srey Pov, 33, a Cambodian woman and Longe Olaouwa Akindele, a 30 year old Nigerian man, were arrested at their house in Phnom Penh's Steung Meanchey III on 30 April 2020.

"The suspects have been conducting social network scams (fake Facebook accounts from overseas) for nearly two years and had about 20 victims send him a total of about USD 50,000," said Maj.Gen Siv Chhoann, deputy director of anti cybercrime of the National Police.

The authority appealed to other victims who have been scammed to file a complaint.
