Phnom Penh (FN), May 13 – US Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy highly appreciated the Royal Government of Cambodia's efforts to effectively manage the economy and set out preventive measures during the Covid-19 crisis, according to a press release from the Ministry of Economy and Finance dated Wednesday following a meeting between Minister Aun Pornmoniroth and the ambassador.
“Ambassador Patrick Murphy highly commended the Royal Government of Cambodia's efforts to manage the economy and control the disease. In fact, there are fewer cases of infection in Cambodia, and no deaths reported."
The United States Government, on 27 April 2020, committed an additional USD 1.5 million in funds to assist Cambodia in the fight against Covid-19.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, the United States has committed over USD 3.5 million in total to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in Cambodia. The assistance, delivered through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will fund risk communication, community engagement, infection prevention and control, and laboratory support, according to statement of the US Embassy in Cambodia dated 27 April 2020.
Aun Pornmoniroth thanked the United States for assisting Cambodia during the difficult time, which is invaluable for the Government and People of Cambodia.
To date, 121, or 99.1 percent, out of the 122 Covid-19 positive patients in Cambodia have recovered.
