Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 24 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen encouraged and supported banks to confiscate properties of any debtors who follow the appeals of the opposition group, addressing at the official launch of the "Cash Transfer Program for Poor and Vulnerable Households during Covid-19" on 24 June 2020, at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.

"I encourage banks to confiscate properties of those who follows the opposition’s appeal not to pay back the loans. Meanwhile, I appeal to the banks to grant favourable conditions to borrowers in this difficult time, yet the repayments have to be made,” the premier said.

Strongman Hun Sen underlined that he does not want to see any properties confiscated by the banks, especially during the Covid-19 crisis, yet he wants to see actions taken against those who follow the appeal of the opposition with the hidden agenda to bankrupt all the banks in Cambodia.

It is worth noting that in order to assist debtors, Prime Minister Hun Sen called on banks to lower interest rate from 12.5 percent to 7 percent.
