Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 24 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the Royal Government of Cambodia has allocated USD100 million for rural infrastructure development and employments.

His remarks were made at the official launch of the "Cash Transfer Program for Poor and Vulnerable Households During Covid-19" on 24 June 2020, at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.

“The allocation of USD100 million is available for the rural households to build irrigation canals that not only benefit themselves but also improve the rural infrastructures,” the premier underlined.

He said the above budget allocation is not a permanent support, but a temporary social support; it is only implemented in times of crisis. He urged critics to distinguish between feeding and aiding.

“The project provides jobs for 890,000 labourers who are facing job loss in the Covid-19 crisis, builds 2,255 km of road, 2,384 km of irrigation canals, and links 45 power lines to agricultural pumping stations,” said the press release.
