Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 7 – Cambodian government announced to extend three-month Cash Transfer Programme for ID Poor Households affected by COVID19.

Prime Minister Hun Sen announced Wednesday at the grand opening of the Chinese-firm Prince Manor Entertainment Center with USD 85 million investment in Kandal’s Kien Svay district.

“I would like to announce that the government will extend Cash Transfer Programme for the next three months to fund about 600,000 households until December,” he said.

The COVID19 Cash Transfer Programme for ID Poor Households was launched in June 2020, spending the state budget of USD 25 million per month.

About 600,000 families were the beneficiaries of the cash programme in July 2020, and in August 644,000 families. The figure expects to increase to 689,000 in October.

The economic fallout of the COVID19 pandemic will push an estimate of 390,000 people in Cambodia to lose their jobs in 2020, according to ADB.
