Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 3 – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó told Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on Tuesday that the Hungarian government is ready to serve as the bridge of the European Union-Cambodia cooperation.

“Hungary is ready to serve as the bridge of the European Union-Cambodia cooperation where we do believe that political perceptions should not be confused with economic and trade realities,” Péter Szijjártó underlined.

Minister Prak Sokhonn stated that Hungary, a member of the European Union, is a close friend of Cambodia. He said Hungary had provided assistance and support to Cambodia at a time when Cambodia was in need of assistance after recovering from the flames of the Khmer Rouge regime, which Hungarian Blue Hat troops were sent to Cambodia under the auspices of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC).

"Hungary's position on the removal of the EBA is another example of a friend who understands the situation in Cambodia and is brave enough to support Cambodia for justice towards a democratic democracy. For all these efforts, I would like to thank His Excellency and Hungary” said Prak Sokhonn.

"In recent years, we have both enjoyed a strong friendship and cooperation that continues to grow on a strong legal basis. We have reviewed the implementation of agreements and memorandums signed as well as previously agreed mechanisms, including the Joint Economic Commission, the bilateral consultation between the Cambodian and Hungarian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and the documents. Some to further strengthen our cooperation in the areas of water management, agriculture, economy and trade, tourism and education,” he added.

"Our two countries have always adhered to the principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter, and we have always taken a stand to further strengthen multilateralism with respect to the sovereignty of each state,” Prak Sokhonn continued.
