Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that court procedures take time, not just in Cambodia but also in France.

The statement was made in a meeting with the Samdech Hun Sen volunteered lawyers at the Peace Palace on Wednesday.

The premier said it bothered him to hear that Cambodian court procedures take time. In fact, court procedures are time consuming, even in France.

"The trial of my defamation case at the French court is set on 1 September 2022. I submitted the lawsuit since 2019. It takes lot of time. So I do not understand why some foreigners push Phnom Penh courts to proceed as soon as possible. If we can not force the French court, same goes to Cambodian court," said Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The French Criminal Court has allegedly charged Sam Rainsy, former opposition leader in exile, with "public defamation on an individual" following a complaint by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen dated 20 August 2019.
