Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 30 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said the government will cover the expenses of COVID19 test, quarantine and treatment for those involved in the Community 28 November event.

The announcement was made at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 38-line road construction in Siem Reap on Monday.

For the poor families, the government will grant USD 5 per day for 14 days to spend on food.

The premier ordered the immediate release of funds to Siem Reap that will allow provincial authorities to fully implement the searching of those who were involved in the “Community 28 November” event and provide the poor families sufficient food supply during their 14-day quarantine.

"It is not appropriate to leave people starving while they are doing self-quarantine. We have to work hard because no one wants to do the self-quarantine. Perhaps only in Cambodia, where citizens receive incentives for their food supply,” said the premier.

"I set the policy that each family receives 20,000 Riels (USD 5) per day, and we only offer to the poor”, he added.

The Royal Government and relevant authorities have paid full attention to the situation and must use the funds in this time of need.

Cambodia’s funds to combat COVID19 is divided into two parts, one of which is the donations initiated by His Majesty King and Queen Mother, which had fundraised approximately USD 20 million. Another is the donations of salaries from Cambodian civil servants and armed forces, which is approximately USD 10 million.

"Community 28 November" is the first ever community transmission COVID19 case detected in Cambodia on 28 November 2020. As of 30 November, 14 people were tested positive among the over 3,330 involved.

To date, Cambodia has confirmed 323 cases of COVID19 with 301 recoveries and no death.
