Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen felt exhilarated to receive landslide donations to purchase COVID19 vaccine, for it reflects the spirit of national unity and solidarity.

His remark was made Tuesday in his special message on the current situation of COVID19 and the purchase of vaccines.

"When I posted on Facebook, I did not think about the contributions from donors, and in that message, I did not call for the donations. Some say that Hun Sen fundraises money to pay for civil servants’ salary. I must make it clear that the money received from donations does not even equal to a quarter of the salary remunerations, which is more than USD 200 million a month”, the premier underlined.

As of 14 December 2020, Cambodian government received at least USD 48 million from donors nationwide, including His Majesty and Her Majesty Queen Mother.

Premier Hun Sen recommended Minister of Health to discuss with development partners, especially the World Health Organization, to determine from which country Cambodia should buy the vaccine.
