Phnom Penh May 5 – The Government of the Republic of Korea will provide medical supplies worth USD 300,000 to Cambodian government in order to support its combat against COVID19.

In a meeting with Her Excellency Secretary of State Soeung Rathchavy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on 5 May 2021, South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia Park Heung-Kyeong said that the Korean government had decided to assist the Cambodian government in its fight against COVID19 with the provision of medical supplies equivalent to USD 300,000.

Secretary of State Rathchavy highly appreciated the decision by the Korean government, conveying deepest gratitude to the government and the people of the Republic of Korea for their thoughtfulness and kindness to provide the grant aid to Cambodia in this critical time of need.

«As a friend and valuable partner of Cambodia, the Republic of Korea has helped Cambodia’s efforts to overcome the COVID19 pandemic. With a strong belief that no one is safe until everyone is safe, we will continue to work together closely with Cambodia in solidarity to defeat the coronavirus» the ambassador underlined.

After the outbreak of COVID19 early last year, the Korean government swiftly donated USD 200,000 and test kits worth USD 100,000 to the Cambodian government in May 2020. The Republic of Korea has also contributed to Cambodia’s response to combat the coronavirus via its COVID19 response assistance program (ABC Program: Agenda for Building Resilience against COVID19) of about USD 1,000,000:

1) Provision of 20 Walk-Through Booths and 62 Negative Pressure Carriers,
2) Support for the vulnerable people with food stuff and essential first aid in 6 target areas including Phnom Penh, Kampong Speu, Kratie, Odor Meanchey, Battambang, and Siem Reap,
3) Cooperation with International Organization for Migration (IOM) on the «Strengthen COVID-19 Response to Returning Migrants in Cambodia at Point of Entry (POE) and Quarantine Center (QC)» focused on five provinces (Batambang, Banteay Meanchey, Oudor Meanchey, Siem Reap, and Prey Veng).
