Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen announced that Cambodia's first oil and gas industry might fail due to company’s bankruptcy, but 137kg of refined gold per month could be the solution, speaking at the opening ceremony of the COVID19 vaccination campaign for children on Sunday.

“On 29 December 2020, Cambodia announced the extraction of the Kingdom’s first drop of oil; this may have failed. It was planned to pump 7,000 barrels a day, but we could extract only 1,000 barrels a day. Now the company [KrisEnergy] is bankrupted, plus the oil company has run away. But with so many oil blocks, we put our efforts to explore and continue our business,” said the premier.

He added, “Fortunately, we got 137 kilograms of refined gold per month.”
