Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 5 – Marc Thayre, chargé d'affaires ad interim of the British Embassy in Cambodia, said he is delighted that the UK government has been able to partner with Cambodian government in the fight against COVID19, which will take time.

The statement was made at the handover ceremony of 415,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine donated by the government and people of the UK, held on Thursday at Phnom Penh International Airport.

"British donation will support Cambodia in its vaccination rollout, allowing businesses to reopen, children to access education and livelihoods to be restored," he said.

On this occasion, Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen sincerely requested the UK to continue to provide humanitarian assistances in the form of vaccines, as well as to facilitate Cambodia in ordering additional AstraZeneca vaccines to meet future needs.

So far, Cambodia has received 3.2 million doses of China-aided COVID19 vaccine, 1 million doses of Japan-aided vaccine, and 415,000 doses of the UK-aided vaccine. Cambodia has also received 1,384,100 doses of COVID19 vaccine from the COVAX Facility.
