Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 24 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen, on Friday, rejected the request for political rehabilitation from Sun Chanthy, head of the ex-CNRP’s executive committee in Kampong Thom, due to his serious law violations.

Premier Hun Sen told Fresh News CEO Lim Chea Vutha on Friday.

"I turned down the requests to re-enter politics submitted by Sun Chanthy. This person has been using Facebook to share messages aiming to overthrow the government, as well as organize activities to strengthen the spirit of the former CNRP activists in Kampong Thom, and keep close contact with convict Sam Rainsy," the premier said.

Chanthy's above activities violated the Supreme Court's judgement dated 16 November 2017, which banned political activities of ex-CNRP officials for 5 years, of the Supreme Court.

As of July 2021, at least 22 of the banned CNRP politicians were rehabilitated, including former top advisor Kong Korm and lawmaker Kong Bora, rehabilitated on 15 January 2019; Sim Vanny on 2 March 2019; former Svay Rieng representative Real Khemarin on 18 March 2019; former CNRP lawmakers Ou Chanrath, Kang Kimhak, Chiv Kata, Tep Sothy, and former party board member Chan Seila were rehabilitated on 19 March 2019; former lawmaker Son Chhay, Tav Kim Chhorn, Var Samon, Sun Sopheak, Ly Srey Vyna, Thach Setha, Yem Ponharith, Muth Chantha, Chum Chandarin, Tuot Yoeut, Lat Lithey, Long Kimkhon and Yong Phannet, Pol Horm, and Phan Chansak.
