Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 7 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen has authorized the use of two helicopters to transport AstraZeneca vaccines to inoculate frontline workers at Khmer-Thai border provinces, including Pailin, Battambang, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey and Preah Vihear.

Head of vaccination committee Or Vandine told Fresh News on Saturday, 7 August.

The AstraZeneca vaccines will be used as a booster shot to approximately 500,000 to 1 million frontline workers like doctors, armed forces and relevant officials fulfilling duties at the provinces along Khmer-Thai border.

The booster shot is to further increase the amount of COVID19 antibodies produced by the immune system in light of the spread of Delta variant. World Health Organisation said vaccines can indeed provide protection against COVID19, including the Delta.

As of 7 August, Cambodia has detected 327 cases of Delta variant.
