Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 23 — The Chinese government pledged to be Cambodia’s trusted strategic supplier of COVID19 vaccine, and will unswervingly support Cambodia in the battle against COVID19.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Wentian spoke Monday in front of Cambodian defense minister Tea Banh at the handover ceremony of 500,000 doses of the China-aided Sinopharm, held at Phnom Penh International Airport.

“As Cambodia’s ironclad friend and community of shared future, the Chinese side considers the challenges of Cambodia as her own challenges. The Chinese side will continue to provide assistances in the form of vaccines, medical equipment and material support to Cambodia where possible, particularly continues to serve as a strategic supplier of vaccines to Cambodia.”

Since the outbreak of the COVID19, China and Cambodia have been working closely together. When the moment came that Cambodia was in need, the Chinese government and military dispatched to Cambodia the first medical expert team and China was also the first and foremost to supply vaccines to Cambodia, to the tune of over 21 million doses already, in both donations and commercial procurements.

As of August 23, the Kingdom has received more than 22 million doses of vaccine, most of which are purchased from China. Other vaccines that Cambodia received include Sinopharm, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

Currently, Cambodia has vaccinated over 9.7 million of its people.
