Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 9 – Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn and South Korean foreign minister Chung Eui-yong, on Thursday, shared optimistic views that the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA) to be signed in early October this year, will further promote the bilateral trade and investment, and boost the economic recovery of both countries in the post-COVID19 era.

They were also pleased to note the stable volumes of bilateral trade between the two countries, and the increase of ROK's investment in Cambodia despite the COVID19 pandemic.

Minister Prak Sokhonn also expressed Cambodia's gratitude to the ROK government for providing development assistance to Cambodia, which has significantly contributed to the socio-economic development in the country.

He stressed that Cambodia appreciates ROK's commitment to expand development assistance under the New Southern Policy of the ROK, and welcomes the New Southern Policy Plus, which focus on seven key areas including comprehensive health and medical cooperation.

In Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 3 February 2021, South Korean trade minister Yoo Myung-hee met Cambodian minister of commerce Pan Sorasak to jointly announce the conclusion of the negotiations for the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA) via video conference.

The CKFTA aims to further strengthen economic partnership and further liberalise bilateral trade between the two economies in a mutually beneficial manner by creating more economic and social benefits for the peoples and businesses of both countries. Furthermore, both countries believe that this important bilateral agreement can facilitate a swift economic recovery for the two countries during and after Covid-19 pandemic.
