Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 17 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen has instructed Cambodia’s committee for COVID19 vaccination to conduct scientific study on the possibility to vaccinate children aged from 3 to under 6 years old, which accounts for approximately 915,000 children.

Vaccination against COVID19 is crucial for building a strong herd immunity and reducing mortality rate.

The premier spoke at a press conference held on Friday morning at the Peace Palace on the launching ceremony of vaccination campaign for children aged from 6 to under 12 years old.

Approximately 2 million doses of the vaccine will be used in this new vaccination program, the premier estimated.

"If the children aged 3 to under 6 years old can receive the vaccination, the Royal Government will not hesitate to buy more vaccines for them," the premier underlined.

Cambodia has so far vaccinated more than 72 percent of the total population.

Cambodia aims to build a strong herd immunity by fully vaccinating up to 91 percent of the total population of 16 million.
