Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 26 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and leaders of ASEAN member countries, except Myanmar, participated in the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summit and related Summits via video conference under the chairmanship of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei.

The 38th and 39th ASEAN Summit officially took place on Tuesday under the theme “We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper”.

On the occasion, ASEAN leaders agreed to issue a joint statement to promote multilateralism, which includes the ASEAN's need to maintain unity, cohesion and resilience, commitment to maintain peace, security and a peaceful settlement of disputes, strengthening ASEAN centrality and unity with its external partners, and reaffirming the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Perspective (AOIP).

ASEAN leaders also agreed to strongly support Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the ASEAN Plus One Free Trade Agreement; address the common impact and consequences of interrelated challenges; strengthen global public health system; encourage more cooperation to achieve ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and Development of ASEAN Post-2025 Vision, and lastly, strengthen ASEAN institutions.
