Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 27 — At the 24th ASEAN-China Summit held on 26 October 2021, Cambodian premier Hun Sen underscored some areas with the aim of strengthening ASEAN-China future cooperation as follows:

First, Cambodia would like to profoundly thank the Chinese government for the active participation in the fight against COVID19 via the provision of vaccines, medical equipment, and technical assistance, particularly the supply of vaccines to developing countries, including Cambodia. To expedite regional economic recovery, Cambodia would like to urge China to provide support for the cooperation in five strategic areas in the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and other initiatives such as the ASEAN Travel Corridor Arrangement Framework and the ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies for Public Health Emergencies.

Second, Cambodia is pleased with the achievements made in regional connectivity, stemming from the synergy between the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC) 2025 and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

“I highly appreciate the implementation of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership Vision 2030, which has significantly contributed to the socio-economic development and peace in the region,” the premier underlined.

Cambodia would like to express our support for the upgrading of ASEAN-China ties to “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and the adoption Joint Declarations on three issues (1). ASEAN-China Commemorative Summit on the 30th Anniversary, (2). Cooperation under ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework, and (3). Enhancing Green and Sustainable Development Cooperation, and especially setting 2022 as the Year of “Sustainable Development Cooperation”.

Third, Cambodia would like to express great appreciation for the progress of ASEAN-China economic and trade cooperation. We firmly hope that the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), recently ratified by Cambodia’s Legislative Body, will contribute to further promoting our trade and investment.
