Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 28 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen attended the 16th East Asia Summit (EAS), held on 27 October 2021 via videoconference, at the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei.

“The Summit emphasized the important role of the EAS for dialogue and cooperation on broad strategic, political and economic issues of common interest and concern, strengthening multilateralism and maintaining a rules-based regional architecture for constructive inter-state relations and promoting strategic trust,” according to outcomes of the summit seen by Fresh News on Thursday.

“The Leaders underlined the importance of maintaining peace, security and prosperity in the region by taking into account the principles as laid out in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. They recognised the positive progress of the EAS cooperation under the Manila Plan of Action to Advance the Phnom Penh Declaration on the EAS Development Initiatives (2018-2022), and looked forward to the development of a successor Plan of Action.”
