Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 6 – Mar Yarith, president of the Fresh News Training Center (FTC), explained how to professionally develop attractive leads for spot news.

Mar Yarith spoke at a training organized by Fresh News Training Center (FTC) on 6 November 2021.

“If a journalist can write a lead well and accurately, it is equivalent to writing 60 percent of the whole article,” Yarith said.

Writing leads for spot news should avoid repetition of words or phrases.

Mar Yarith also introduced different types of leads for spot news such as direct lead and delayed lead.

Mar Yarith is a local veteran journalist, who has been working in the field of journalism for over 30 years. He has worked for various well-known foreign news agencies such as UPI, AP and VOA.

Yarith was also the founder and co-founder to several media outlets in Cambodia. Back then, he was the only Cambodian student majoring in journalism at the University of Michigan and the University of Maryland in the United States.
