Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 8 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said he never dreams of holding two or more citizenships other than Cambodian citizenship, speaking at the inauguration of the new building of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction on Monday.

“The baseless accusation that Hun Sen holds foreign citizenship has paved ways for the constitutional amendment which is now come into force,” the premier said, adding that “I never dream of holding other citizenships beside Cambodian.”

“Hun Sen is standing here with only one nationality by birth and has never attempted to hold any other nationalities,” the premier underlined.

The law to determine that the prime minister, the National Assembly president, Senate president, and the Constitutional Council president must hold a single Cambodian citizenship has officially come into force after Cambodian king Norodom Sihamoni signed on late Thursday.

The above law aims to serve the noble and long-term interests of the nation by ensuring that leaders of the four institutions are loyal to the nation and the people of Cambodia; it also aims to prevent foreign interferences in Cambodian internal affairs.
