Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 8 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen warned to arrest anyone who criticizes the kingdom’s constitutional amendment as a violation against Paris Peace Accord.

The premier’s statement was made Monday after an activist Srun Srorn criticized the amendment to abolish two-thirds majority in order to pass the vote of confidence in favor of the fifty plus one majority principle violated Paris Peace Accords.

“Do you have any legal references to accuse the National Assembly of committing mistakes on abolishing the two-thirds majority vote in favour of the fifty plus one majority principle. Which laws state that constitutional amendment violates Paris Peace Accords?” the premier asked.

“Accusing the National Assembly is a serious violation of the law,” the premier said.

On 2 March 2006, Cambodia amended constitution in order to use fifty plus one majority principle to pass vote of confidence.

The National Assembly and the Senate can pass vote of confidence to elect the president, vice-president of the National Assembly and Senate and the members of the various committees of the two houses; approve the internal regulations of the National Assembly and the Senate; and remove the members of the Council of Ministers.
