Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 7 – Myanmar looks forward to welcoming and coordinating with the Special Envoy appointed by Cambodia, as Chair of ASEAN, in fulfilling the five-point consensus, including improving humanitarian relief delivery, according to a press release on the outcomes of the Myanmar’s foreign minister working visit to Cambodia.

At the invitation of Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn, Myanmar’s minister for foreign affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin paid a working visit to Cambodia on 6-7 December 2021.

As the upcoming chair of ASEAN, Cambodia will appoint its own special envoy who will continue the work of the current special envoy, beginning with the term of its presidency on January 2022, Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn told Fresh News.

The five-point consensus agreed at the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting on 24 April 2021 should be fully implemented without further delay. They include:

1. Immediate cessation of violence in Myanmar and all parties to exercise utmost restraint.

2. Constructive dialogue among all parties concerned shall commence to seek a peaceful solution in the interests of the people.

3. The special envoy of ASEAN chair to facilitate mediation of the dialogue process, with the assistance of the ASEAN Secretary-General.

4. ASEAN to provide humanitarian assistance through the AHA centre,

5. Special envoy and delegation to visit Myanmar to meet all parties concerned.
