Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 23 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the Royal Government has suspended the salary increase for civil servants and armed forces in 2021 and the suspension is likely to continue for the year 2022, speaking at the inauguration of new office building of the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) on Thursday.

In this regard, Samdech asked for understanding, adding that if COVID19 situation eases and the kingdom’s revenue increases, the Royal Government will increase the salary for them in 2023.

Cambodia has suspended the salary increase for civil servants and the armed forces for two consecutive years due to COVID19 pandemic since late 2019.

Samdech underlined that the government has made efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability, curb inflation, and maintain the purchasing power of the Cambodian Riel.

The premier also called on civil servants and the armed forces to participate in the kingdom’s tax collection to boost the national economy.
