Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 23 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that some foreign countries had advised Cambodia to sell 50% of her General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), speaking at the inauguration of new office building of the GDCE on Thursday.

"In 2004, our foreign partners advised us to split the management of the GDCE into two, of which 50% will be controlled by foreign private firms and another 50% by government. In this sense, Cambodia was asked to sell her sovereignty, so I strongly disagreed with such advice,” the premier underlined.

The premier also told the next generation to defend the kingdom’s independence and sovereignty.

"Never trade national sovereignty for aids or investment from foreigners under any conditions," the premier said.
