Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 26 – Australia will continue to stand with Cambodia in responding to the global pandemic, according to Australian Embassy in Cambodia’s media release seen by Fresh News on Sunday.

“We remain committed to working together to secure the safety and prosperity of our people, our countries and the broader region.”

“Australia understands a successful vaccination campaign requires planning, administration, equipment, distribution and training to ensure that everyone is protected including vulnerable and hard to reach populations. This is why we have provided, through grant funding, USD 28 million for a comprehensive package of support for COVID19 vaccinations. In addition to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, Australia's support is also helping train healthcare workers and providing logistics support and equipment,” said Chargé d'Affaires of the Australian Embassy in Cambodia Andreas Zurbrugg.

Australia is partnering with UNICEF and the World Health Organization to support the national roll-out.

Mr Zurbrugg continued, "UNICEF's expertise in the procurement and delivery of vaccines - particularly to hard-to-reach locations will increase the availability of vaccines to vulnerable Cambodians including persons with a disability and pregnant women."

"This pandemic has proven once again that the only way we can tackle our biggest challenges is in partnership with each other, and the Australian Government is one of UNICEF's most important partners in the region", said Foroogh Foyouzat, representative for UNICEF in Cambodia.

"Australia's support doesn't just provide much-needed vaccines at another critical stage in our fight against the virus, but has also allowed us to support the government and put in place the cold chain infrastructure and capacities which will benefit the health system permanently, and enable it to respond more effectively to future challenges. We are deeply grateful for Australia's commitment to supporting Cambodia's recovery," she added.
