Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 10 – Japan announced her support for Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen as chair of ASEAN and the latter's visit to Myanmar to resolve current political crisis.

Premier Hun Sen spoke at the inauguration ceremony of National Road No. 5 improvement project on Monday.

The premier thanked Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Mikami Masahiro for supporting Cambodia as chair of ASEAN and that Japan pledged to work closely with the kingdom to successfully chair the ASEAN summits.

Japan also supported Cambodia’s visit to Myanmar and initiatives to improve the situation in Myanmar, the premier added.

Samdech continued, ambassador Mikami confirmed that Japan looks forward to providing humanitarian assistance to help resolve the Myanmar crisis.

Premier Hun Sen underlined that his approaches used in the dialogue with Myanmar leader is ASEAN five-point consensus and ASEAN charter, adding that further positive outcomes will result from ceasefire and dialogues as well as humanitarian reliefs.
