Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 26 – As a rotating chair of ASEAN Summit 2022, Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen has made 4-point appeals to Myanmar’s senior general Min Aung Hlaing to contribute to resolving the Myanmar’s crisis, according to delegate minister Kao Kim Hourn.

Premier Hun Sen met with senior general Min Aung Hlaing via video conference on Wednesday.

The delegate minister said the 4-point appeal include:

1. Calls on Min Aung Hlaing to strive to implement the ASEAN’s five point consensus.

2. Requests Min Aung Hlaing to make efforts to create better conditions for the special envoy of the ASEAN Chair to visit Myanmar in the future.

3. Calls on all concerned parties involved in the Myanmar crisis to end violence; adhere to a ceasefire in the future; and be highly patient.

4. Invites Min Aung Hlaing to cooperate with ASEAN countries in providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Myanmar without discrimination.

Myanmar's senior general Min Aung Hlaing will be invited to the ASEAN Summit if there is a positive progress on the implementation of the ASEAN’s five-point consensus and if not, the senior general shall send a non-political Myanmar representative to the meeting, according to the premier.

During Cambodian premier Hun Sen’s visit to Myanmar on 7-8 January 2022, Myanmar’s senior general Min Aung Hlaing informed Cambodian premier Hun Sen that the Myanmar government had declared a five-month ceasefire with all Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) until the end of February 2022 and decided to further extend it until end of 2022. He assured the facilitation of the visit of the special envoy to Myanmar and to meet with all parties concerned including EAOs taking into account of the prevailing situation in Myanmar.
