Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 17 – Cambodia successfully organized the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMMR) on 17 February 2022 at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra. All ASEAN foreign ministers joined except Myanmar.

The hybrid meeting touched on effective control of the COVID19 pandemic and inclusive recovery process, Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn spoke in the AMMR press conference.

“The post-COVID19 economic recovery is the key topic; therefore, the foreign ministers stressed the need to promote the implementation of the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework, and the Intra-ASEAN travel,” Prak Sokhonn said.

Sokhonn also briefed the meeting on key deliverables, including effective control of the COVID19 pandemic and inclusive recovery process, geo-political rivalries, existing traditional and non-traditional issues, strengthening ASEAN’s cohesiveness, centrality and resilience, and situation of the political crisis in Myanmar.

The AMM Retreat followed up on the leaders’ decisions from the 38th and the 39th ASEAN Summits, exchange views on how to further strengthen external relations with dialogue partners while maintaining and promoting ASEAN centrality, solidarity and unity, and discuss ways and means to collectively endeavour to build a more resilient, dynamic, peaceful and prosperous ASEAN Community. Regional and international issues of common interest and concern will also be discussed in the meeting.
