Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said if his eldest son Hun Manet commits any crime or lacks of capacity, he will not support Manet as a candidate for future Cambodian prime minister.

The premier spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Japan-aided sewage treatment plant in Phnom Penh on Tuesday (22 Feb).

“If my son commits any crimes, I will not support him to be the premier. I will not let Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the Cambodian people be destroyed by the hands of my child,” the premier underlined.

Premier Hun said he has never humiliated anyone’s children despite numerous insults over his son’s qualifications.

On 24 December 2021, Hun Manet was elected as candidate for future prime minister of the ruling party. He is currently a deputy commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, army commander, and chairman of the CPP Central Youth Committee.

Manet received a bachelor's degree from West Point in 1999. He also received a Master of Arts in Economics from New York University in 2002, and a doctorate from the University of Bristol in 2008.
