Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the intention to get rid of the Myanmar junta is like hitting one's head against the wall.

The premier spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Japan-aided sewage treatment plant in Phnom Penh on Tuesday (Feb 22).

"There is a looming intention to get rid of Myanmar’s junta, but is it possible? It is like hitting one's head against the wall,” the premier underlined.

According to premier Hun Sen, Myanmar's 2008 constitution states that the military obtains 25% of the parliament seat and that the commander-in-chief of the armed forces has the right to appoint a vice president, a minister of defense, a minister of interior and a minister of border affairs.

As the rotating chair of ASEAN 2022, Samdech Hun Sen also recalled his visit to Myanmar to urge the junta to implement the ASEAN five-point consensus. In this regard, Samdech is determined to work with relevant stakeholders to find a solution to the crisis.

Premier Hun Sen said, "I will work with ASEAN and Japan, who is well experienced with the situation in Myanmar, to assist Myanmar in overcoming this crisis, especially to prevent further deaths from violence and to ensure the deliveries of humanitarian relief for the needy people of Myanmar.”

Premier Hun Sen believes that war is not a mean to end war.
